Cutbacks at Wiltshire College

8.49.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 25th May 2010

To cope with a reduction in funding Wiltshire College has announced cuts to some of its courses.

Catering will be axed at Chippenham and the Tynings Restaurant closed, so trainee chefs will have to go to Trowbridge or Salisbury.

Some 40 catering students will have to make new arrangements, with up to 6 staff also affected.

Learning Centres at Calne, Melksham and Westbury and the IT Learning Centres at Amesbury, Bemerton Heath, Calne, Chippenham, Corsham, Devizes, Melksham, Mere, Salisbury, Tisbury, Trowbridge, Warminster and Westbury will also disappear over the summer.

The College will continue to offer a wide range of IT and Skills for Life courses for learners in Wiltshire and existing students will be given advice on how to access these. Wiltshire College is also increasing the diversity of its provision through Skills3, a new programme of skills experiences.

Courses in bricklaying will no longer be offered at Salisbury, but the Tollgate Training Centre will continue to offer Construction Industry skills such as carpentry, plumbing and electrical installation.
