Big increases in car parking charges

9.03.00am BST (GMT +0100) Sun 11th Jul 2010

Wiltshire Council Conservatives have imposed increases in car parking charges across West Wiltshire of up to 25%. These are apart from the further increases expected as part of the 'harmonisation' process.

Generally the one hour rate has stayed the same at 40p in most car parks, but the two hour rate has shot up from 80p to £1. There are also increases in charges for season tickets.

In Warminster free parking disappears from the town with all car parks having a minimum one hour charge of 40p and the more commonly used two hour charge going up to £1.

In Westbury there is still free parking in the Warminster Road and High Street parks but only for one hour. A two hour stay will cost £1.

The new rates, which started on July 5th, will help the cash-strapped council address its budget deficits.
