Makers Parking have been appointed as the main contractor to carry out the refurbishment. A pre-contract meeting was held with all parties including the shopping centre management to ensure the smooth running of the contract and to minimise disruption.

Enabling works have begun with the construction of a switchroom and electrical works to supply lights and CCTV equipment. The closure of the car park will begin week commencing 29 May.

County Highways will put up signage making alternative parking easier to locate.

An application for planning permission for temporary car parking on the Bowyers site goes to planning committee next Thursday (29th).

West Wiltshire Council will spend almost half a million pounds on repairs and refurbishment of the car park.

Among the works to be carried out are improving lighting and signage, improving the stairwells, waterproofing the top deck and repairing damaged pillars. The period of refurbishment is likely to last for 4 months.

The council would like to encourage people to use the Wiltshire County Council staff car park during weekends as this car park can accommodate up to 250 cars and is close to the town centre.

Graham Payne, leader of the district council, said: "It has always been our intention to see the multi storey car park refurbished as part of Trowbridge's on-going regeneration, and it is pleasing to finally be able to say that it is now happening."
