Religious Education Council pleads for understanding

The quango set up to promote religious education in England and Wales has written to parliamentary candidates with news of a public relations campaign they're doing to address what they see as a lack of public understanding about the nature and content of best-practice RE.

They point out that Religious Education is essential for children to understand the world of religion and the religions of the world, and that when done properly it encourages tolerance of diverse beliefs and opinions and develops a mature attitude to moral questions.

The Council provides a forum for fifty professional associations and faith bodies. It's working with the government to produce an action plan for the development of Religious Education in England.
